2. Cells, Tissues, Organs
A group of cells working together is called a tissue
There are four major types of tissue:
Muscle tissue
Nervous tissue
Connective tissue
Epithelial tissue

3. Epithelial tissue Covers and protects underlying tissue
Epithelial tissue can be found on the outside of our skin and on the outside of our organs

4. Nervous tissue Sends electrical signals throughout our body
It makes up our brain, nerves, and sense organs

5. Muscle tissue
Made of cells that contract and relax to produce movement

6. Connective tissue
Joins, supports, protects, nourishes, and cushions organs
There are many different kinds such as ligaments and even blood

8. Homeostasis The maintenance of a stable internal environment
The body is able to maintain fairly constant body temperature, blood sugar, water level, etc.
Our body is able to do this because of specialized cells, tissues, and organs

Start on pages 6-7
Then, use the index (back) or Table of Contents (front) to find the organ system details
Remember that organs are groups of tissues that work together…therefore… a bone is an organ too!
