Warm Up The following function represents the profit of a snow ball stand over time: What is the slope and what does it mean in the context of the problem? What is the y-intercept and what does it mean in the context of the problem?

Objective The student will be able to to create a linear function given two points.

Consider the Following…
Is it possible to create a linear function given two ordered pairs, if so why, not why not? What is needed to create a linear function, and do we have enough information to create a linear function with two ordered pairs?

Try with a Partner Mr. Holocker is running a snowball stand and found after he sold 2 snow balls he has made $16.00 and after selling 12 snow balls he has made $4.00. Write a function that relates the number of snowballs sold s, to the profit made.

Point Slope Form. Point Slope Form only requires one point and a slope to create a linear function. Essentially we only need two ordered pairs to create a linear function!

Try with a Partner Create a linear function that goes through the points (2,3) and (5,4).

On Your Own: Joe Cool is selling candy to buy a new pair of sunglasses. After selling 2 pieces of candy, he has made $2.00 and after selling 8 pieces of candy, he has made $5.00. Write a function that relates the number of pieces of candy c, to the profit made.
