Learning Without Limits
Ken Spencer Award winners: The Ken Spencer Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning was established with the generous contribution of Dr. Ken Spencer to recognize and publicize innovative work that is sustainable and has the potential of being taken up by others; to encourage a focus on transformative change in schools; and to provide profile for classroom innovation within school districts, schools, and the media. Founded in 1891, the Canadian Education Association (CEA) is a network of passionate educators advancing ideas for greater student and teacher engagement in public education.
6
Learning Without Limits
From Distributed Learning to a Blended Learning mindset: SAIL is a blended interdisciplinary school district program where students learn through inquiry and project-based learning using a variety of digital tools. Blended Learning is a blend of F-2-F with a digital tool on variety of the spectrum. Also a blend of instructional practices and environments.
7
Learning Without Limits
From Distributed Learning to a Blended Learning mindset: Students learn face-to-face in a blended learning model at SAIL 4 days a week. Rather than traditional subjects taught in isolation, SAIL students focus on inquiry and project-based learning, integrating concepts from Science, Math, and Humanities.
8
Learning Without Limits
Incubator of ideas that has manifested itself in a legitimate public school that has waitlists for every program. Surrey Academy of Innovative Learning programs focus on blended learning combining ‘classroom learning’ and ‘home learning’ into an interdisciplinary program.
9
Learning Without Limits
SAIL provides a hands-on inquiry based model with the goal of addressing the needs of the whole child, as they develop the skills needed to be a successful future focused learner.
10
Learning Without Limits
Students are in a multi-aged classroom (in elementary) / cohorts (in secondary) and have the flexibility to advance according to their learning capabilities. Students are challenged to embrace an innovator mindset.
11
Learning Without Limits
STEAM = BL SAIL programs welcome learners who appreciate hands-on curriculum experiences combined with flexible hours and pacing that allows time to explore and access learning through a variety of digital platforms, and to connect to other learners and the community in powerful, unique ways.

CONSTANT STATE OF BETA: Standing still is the same as moving backwards in our world. Educational Entrepreneurial Mindset Best Practice vs Next Practice

Learning Without Limits
14
Learning Without Limits
STEAM = BL Our mission is to create communities of learners where we meet students where they are academically, socially and emotionally and help scaffold the student’s learning.

Learning Without Limits
TodaysMeet #1 What “Mindset Change” do teachers, administrators, parents, and politicians have to have to make learning without limits a universal paradigm?
16
Flexible Structures Regular bricks and mortar schools need to embrace the flexibility of Blended Learning and reevaluate the systems and structures within regular schools that hold back student learning.
17
Flexible Structures TodaysMeet #2 http://today.io/1p6r1
What Systems/Structures in your school/school district are preventing you to expand DL or BL?
18
Disruption Disruption and innovation in all schools need to occur to implement some form of BL which is in alignment with the new provincial curriculum.
19
Disruption As the name of the event implies, "DISRUPTION" is well represented at the private sector, mostly in the form of start ups that are riding a wave of innovative change, and causing some real disruption in some industries. Think Uber vs. the traditional Taxi cab market, AirBNB vs. the hotel industry, etc. etc.
20
Disruption Like a wave, true disruption can hit an industry like a tsunami, washing over incumbents, and forcing an industry to change or risk getting drowned out. But every wave eventually recedes, and when it does, sometimes it leaves no trace, and sometimes it leaves its watermark forever.
21
Disruption TodaysMeet #3 http://today.io/1p6r3
What disruptions are currently occurring in your school/district?
22
Surrey’s Plan Over the next 2 years. Decentralization of DL & STEAM 8 & 9 TodaysMeet #4 Do you see Surrey’s DL/BL plan being implemented your District? Why or Why not?

Vision = Best Practice BETTER BRIGHTER FUTURE:
"This is really hard work," Greenberg says. "So many factors are working against innovation in public schools.... The current system is not doing a very good job by our current students. We need to provide some cover for these schools to be able to take risks.” - Blended Learning Revolution- Tech Meets Tradition In The Classroom
