1 Identifying Gifted Students
Mountain Pine School District Gifted and Talented Program Identifying Gifted Students

2 Identification Students in K-12 may be recommended/identified throughout the year. No one factor will place a student in G/T or exclude a student from G/T. If a student is recommended, I create a file which contains their grades, state test scores, teacher recommendations, and any other helpful information (work samples, etc.). Candidates also take two assessments (NNAT2, and SOI). G/T testing occurs in the beginning of the school year and an identification committee meets to discuss placement. The committee consists of a building principal, the G/T Coordinator, at least two classroom teachers, and a counselor.

3 Identification, continued…
If you would like to recommend a student in grade 7-12, please list any Pre-AP/AP classes they have completed. If you have a student you feel may be a candidate for the G/T program, please fill out both the Teacher Recommendation Form and the HOPE Teacher Rating Scale and put it in my mailbox. Forms will be in both the high school and elementary workrooms.

4 Volunteers? If you would like to serve on the G/T Identification Committee, please let me know. You are welcome to join! If you would like to serve on the G/T Advisory Committee and make program suggestions, find out more about curriculum selection, yearly competitions, and testing, please attend! The meeting is held in May and I will send out an with the time and date.
