Graphing Data
2
Why Do We Use Graphs? Graphs help us visualize numerical data.
There are several different types of graphs: Bar graphs Pie graphs Line graphs
3
Bar Graphs Bar graphs are used to show a comparison of multiple objects.
4
Pie Graphs Pie graphs are used to compare the parts of a whole.
5
Line Graphs Line graphs are used to show the relationship between variables, particularly TIME
6
Types of Relationships (between variables)
Direct: as x increases y increases Indirect: as x increases y decreases Constant: as x increases y remains the same
7
Axes of a Graph: X-axis (horizontal axis) Horizontal means:
Y-axis (vertical axis) Vertical means:
8
Label the x and y axes
9
Label the x and y axes Y-Axis Dependent Variable
X-Axis (Independent Variable)

Scale Now you need to select evenly spaced intervals that include all your data (a scale). Data set 1: 15, 30, 45, 7, 64, 95 Minimum value for scale:____ Maximum Value for scale:____
