2 RELIEF PRINTING This is printing from a raised surface.
A simple example of relief printing is a rubber stamp pressed into a stamp pad and pressed onto a piece of paper. Relief printing plates are made from flat sheets of material such as wood, lino, polystyrene etc. After drawing a picture on the surface, the artist uses tools to cut away the areas that will not print. A roller is used to spread ink on the block. The block is placed on top of the paper and pressed down to transfer the image. The completed print is a mirror image of the original plate.

Polyblock Prints are created by drawing/pressing a design on to a polystyrene plate. Ink is rolled on to the block. The block is placed on top of the paper and pressed down to transfer the image.

Experiment with the type of marks you press into the polyblock. It will create different effects

Experiment with how much Ink you roll on, and how much pressure you use. It will create different results. Experiment with Mixing different coloured Inks on the same block to create different effects.
