1 CURRENT EVENTS ON THIS DAY: Abraham Lincoln was elected to be the sixteenth president of theUnited States.  Jefferson Davis was elected as the president of the Confederacy in theU.S.  The first official intercollegiate football game was played in New Brunswick, NJ Edwin H. 2 Controversial Topic Research Project
You are being assigned a research project on a controversial issue. By yourself or with a partner choose and thoroughly research a topic in order to present it to the class using PowerPoint/Google Slides. The topic MUST be approved before you start.

3 Topics Make sure both you and your partner share a clear, strong opinion on your topic. You are stating and supporting your point of view in the presentation. Feel free to suggest/research any idea that is not on the following list. If approved, you can use it for your project. Remember: You can work with a partner, but only one. Also, you are sharing the work. When presenting, make sure the information and work load is divided between both partners.

6 Requirements for PowerPoint
Title slide Definition/explanation of topic History behind the issue Present Side A Present Side B Personal/Partners Opinion Slide Visual images (pictures/cartoons/video) Audience participation (provoke audience discussion) Works cited slide- At least three sources with connection to slides

7 Pictures/Videos When using pictures, you must have captions to explain connection. When using video, be sure it is less than 3 minutes, appropriate, & linked into the presentation.

8 Grading This assignment is worth 25 points and is graded on the following aspects: Content/Presentation Required Elements (look at rubric) It will be due at the start of class on November 14th. We will have one presentation a day.

9 Remember: Good presentation skills will count towards your grade:
Speak loudly Don’t stare at the screen and read from it Make eye contact with students and teacher Know the information about your topic Present both sides to the argument along with your opinion Do not use paragraph form on the PowerPoint. Make a bulleted list Make sure material is appropriate for CLASS discussion. If there are any graphic pictures, warn the class before presenting them
