Plants
2
Evolution of Plants
4
Nonvascular plants Examples: green algae and mosses
Does NOT have a transport system Found in water or damp places Tend to be small
5
Vascular Plants Have vascular tissue – specialized tissue to transport water and nutrients Xylem – moves water up from the roots Phloem – carries nutrients made by photosynthesis
6
Seed Plants 1. Cones Male cones make pollen
Pollen carried by wind to female cones Female cones have seeds on it Pollination – transfer of pollen from male to female reproductive structures
7
2. Flowers Can have male and female parts in the same flower Petals attract pollinators (ex: bees, hummingbirds) Pollen carried by animals or wind Ovaries develop into a fruit to protect seeds
8
Plant Tissues Roots – anchor the plant and absorbs water and nutrients
Stems – transport system (xylem and phloem) and protection Leaves – photosynthesis and lets carbon dioxide in/out (stomata)
