1 10 Tips on Internet Safety
Be safe on the Internet!

2 Tip 1 Never Give Personal Information on the Internet
Personal information is private information such as your address, age, name, etc. There are people out there on the internet that can harm you with those kind of information (ex: cyber bullies).

3 Tip 2 How to Deal with Cyber Bullying
Cyber bullies are people on the internet that bully you through the internet. How to stop them: Don’t respond. Cyber bullies want you to feel bullied and they want to play around with your emotions. Try to stop them from contacting you. Block the bully’s address, screen name or telephone number. If they can’t have access to you, they might stop. If the bullying continues, tell him/ her to stop. Tell the bully, strongly, to stop.

4 Tip 3 Get Permission Whenever you go on a website that you don’t know or a website that you haven’t seen before, ask a parent for permission to use the website if you need to use it or get off the website. This will allow you to be safe through an adult that has more power than you on the internet.

5 Tip 4 Don’t give out any account information to others
Even if that person is your best friend, don’t give out any account information such as your password. With this kind of information, you could easily get cyber bullied by strangers.

6 Tip 5 Downloading Whenever you are downloading something, make sure it: Is safe, Is trustworthy, Has no viruses, Gives you privacy (when necessary) when you use it. Ask for parental permission before downloading

7 Tip 6 Uploading When uploading anything, make sure it doesn’t contain any personal information. Once something is uploaded, it can be seen by anyone online, so make sure they can’t learn any of your personal information through that. Ask a parent or a guardian if uploading the photo/video is safe to do. Try to upload in websites that allow you to delete the post, so you can delete it if the situation gets bad.

8 Tip 7 Anonymous Most websites have people labeled as anonymous. These “anonymous” can be a teen browsing the internet or an adult trying to get others’ personal information. If an anonymous user asks you anything, make sure you have an adult around so they can make sure that the conversation is safe. If you don’t have a parent or guardian around, for safety, don’t talk to the anonymous user just in case. If the anonymous asks any questions regarding your personal information, block him/her and tell an adult. Anonymous users

9 Tip 8 Make sure whatever you do online is not hurtful to others
When you’re online, you’re with others from all around the world so don’t be rude and post hurtful posts. If you don’t want to be bullied, don’t bully others and remember to apologize if you do anything hurtful. This is a key thing in online safety because you don’t want to become the cyber bully in the internet and make others involve their parents against you. Although they may not do much if you made a mistake, if you continuously do it, even if it is a mistake and you didn’t know, people have every right (in that situation) to see you as a bully and contact and adult or even police if it gets serious.

10 Tip 9 Tell a parent/guardian whenever something makes you uncomfortable online An adult has a lot more power and control on the internet. They are definitely a prime help to being cyber safe. If something inappropriate or something that makes you uncomfortable pops up on the internet, tell an adult and they will handle the situation a lot better than you. Don’t be worried that your parent/guardian will get mad that you were doing whatever you were doing. Your safety on the internet is their top priority at that time.

11 Tip 10 The internet can be both a fun and a dangerous place at the same time so have fun, but be safe. So always have an adult around so that they can turn the situation around, if it gets out of hand. There were and are many people in the world that become a victim to cyber bullying just because they weren’t safe and didn’t tell their parents anything, so don’t be like them and be safe. You could be thinking that you’re on a educational website, but it could turn out that that website was just one that a person used to try and get some of your personal information.
