3 Phonation Sound -formed by vibrations in larynx
Volume and pitch controlled by -respiratory muscles -vocal tract

4 Adductory Sound -folds held together produces vibration -forms consonants -full adduct is glottal stop

5 Abductory Sound -caused by expansion of folds -Partial opening is voiceless consonant

6 Sound pitch determined by
-Position in vocal tract -Pressure changes -Narrow= higher pitch

7 Aperiodic Phonation -Sound caused by airstream modification -produces
Plosive Fricative Africative Voiced

8 Resonation and Articulation
-vocal tract is closed tube -vowels are harmonics 1, 3, 5 -determined by tongue position
