1 Art A Review Term 1 E.Lyon

2 At the door pick up three pieces of paper
Rotational Drawing At the door pick up three pieces of paper Fold them so they create a book Let’s label our book together

3 Bell Work Write your name on the cover of your sketchbook Write the date Write the answers to these two questions on the cover 1) Look at the drawings you did when you did rotational drawing when the sub was here. What do you want to improve on today? Shading, realism, proportions, light source, etc. 2) When is the last day to turn work on for this class?

4 Agenda 10.17.2017 Prepare your sketchbook for rotational drawing
5 min. per drawing Each drawing will have a different focus and some notes(this is to review some of the art terms we have covered so far and to introduce some new terms) Next class: We will review all the art work we have created We will each display our work in the hall(don’t worry you can omit two pieces of art and set your favorite two on top) Get our graded Randomness Projects back We might have time to start one point perspective

5 Rotational Drawing 5 minutes per drawing
Focus on drawing to the best of your own ability Each drawing will have a different term associated with it As a class we will write down what the term means together

6 Line Lines and curves are marks that span a distance between two points (or the path of a moving point). As an element of visual art, line is the use of various marks, outlines and implied lines in artwork and design. A line has a width, direction, and length.[1] A line's width is sometimes called its "thickness". Lines are sometimes called "strokes", especially when referring to lines in digital artwork.

7 Shape A shape is defined as a two or more dimensional area that stands out from the space next to or around it due to a defined or implied boundary, or because of differences of value, color, or texture.[4] All objects are composed of shapes and all other 'Elements of Design' are shapes in some way.[5] Mechanical Shapes or Geometric Shapes are the shapes that can be drawn using a ruler or compass. Mechanical shapes, whether simple or complex, produce a feeling of control or order.[5] Organic Shapes are freehand drawn shapes that are complex and normally found in nature. Organic shapes produce a natural feel.[5]

8 Value Value The lightness or darkness of tones or colors. White is the lightest value; black is the darkest. The value halfway between these extremes is called middle gray. Space An element of art by which positive and negative areas are defined or a sense of depth achieved in a work of art .

9 Form Form may be described as any three-dimensional object. Form can be measured, from top to bottom (height), side to side (width), and from back to front (depth). Form is also defined by light and dark. It can be defined by the presence of shadows on surfaces or faces of an object. There are two types of form, geometric (man- made) and natural (organic form). Form may be created by the combining of two or more shapes. It may be enhanced by tone, texture and color. It can be illustrated or constructed.

10 Texture Meaning the way a surface feels or is perceived to feel. Texture can be added to attract or repel interest to an element, depending on the pleasantness of the texture.[5] Types of texture Tactile texture is the actual three-dimension feel of a surface that can be touched. Painter can use impasto to build peaks and create texture.[5] Visual texture is the illusion of the surfaces peaks and valleys, like the tree pictured. Any texture shown in a photo is a visual texture, meaning the paper is smooth no matter how rough the image perceives it to be.[5] Most textures have a natural touch but still seem to repeat a motif in some way. Regularly repeating a motif will result in a texture appearing as a pattern.[5]

11 Balance It is a state of equalized tension and equilibrium, which may not always be calm.[3] Types: Symmetry Asymmetrical balance produces an informal balance that is attention attracting and dynamic. Radial balance is arranged around a central element. The elements placed in a radial balance seem to 'radiate' out from a central point in a circular fashion. Overall is a mosaic form of balance which normally arises from too many elements being put on a page. Due to the lack of hierarchy and contrast, this form of balance can look noisy but sometimes quiet.

12 Contrast Space Form Gravity Size Texture Position Direction Color
Organized / Chaotic Black & White / Color Thick / Thin Filled / Empty Simple / Complex Mechanical / Hand-Drawn Liquid / Solid Near / Far Light / Dark Gravity Beauty / Ugly Size Texture 2-D / 3-D Light / Heavy Whole / Broken Position Large / Small Fine / Coarse Stable / Unstable Left / Right Deep / Shallow Smooth / Rough Direction Isolated / Grouped Stability / Movement Fat / Thin Sharp / Dull Centered / Off-Center Color Density Structure Grey scale / Color Transparent / Opaque Top / Bottom

13 Emphasis Emphasis is defined as an area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point. Subordination is defined as minimizing or toning down other compositional elements in order to bring attention to the focal point.

14 What art elements and principles of design did we not cover?
Color Space

15 Next class: We will review all the art work we have created
We will each display our work in the hall(don’t worry you can omit two pieces of art and set your favorite two on top) Get our graded Randomness Projects back Class and teacher survey We might have time to start one point perspective, birds eye view, but that will go on term 2’s grade

16 Exit Pass Star your favorite drawing in your sketchbook from today Write down why this is your favorite one? What do you think you improved on today with your drawing skills/ability? -Shading, realism, proportions, light source, etc. See you all next week Monday! Enjoy your Fall Break! If you need to make-up work you can check out art supplies.
