Report on the Gender and Ethnic Composition of State University of New York Faculty,

2 Background 2015 – Operations Committee charged to study the diversity of SUNY faculty composition Expanded upon 2010 Operations Committee study on faculty composition by gender 2015 research question related to structural diversity: how has the gender and ethnic composition of SUNY faculty changed in the past twenty years? Data requested from SUNY for 2016 – Data analysis conducted Thomas Sinclair, Ph.D., Department of Public Administration, SUNY Binghamton (and past Operations Committee Chair) and Aylone Katzin, Graduate Assistant, Department of Public Administration, SUNY Binghamton 2017 – Report presented to Operations Committee Draft discussed, referred back to authors and revised, revisions reviewed and accepted by committee, motion to share report with UFS (special thanks to Keith Landa and Bill Robbins) Shared with Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Committee Presented to UFS body

4 Significant Findings Among the most significant findings of the report: Total Black faculty in tenured and tenure-track ranks increased from 304 in to 323 in , a gain of 19 positions and a 6.2 percent increase. The percentage of Black faculty in the academic ranks rose from 3.8 to 3.9 percent in this time. That is less than one Black faculty member per campus. The percentage of tenured and tenure-track faculty system-wide declined from 60.3 percent in to 38.7 percent in
