What do you plan to do in the future? Submit the application via the Get Set website. A registered teacher should log in to the website in order to access the application form online. PDF and paper forms are also available. PLAY THE GUIDE TO THE GET SET NETWORK FILM
17
Why do you want to join the Get Set network?
What are your existing objectives and priorities in school e.g. positive behaviour, reward and recognition, Global citizenship or promoting healthy lifestyles? How can Get Set and the Values help you? Get Set and the Values could give these objectives a higher profile and an inspirational context. Think of Get Set as a tool which you can use to help you achieve existing objectives. Share your aspirations for your school in terms of participating in London In this section, the assessors want to see how you’re excited by the Games and why you think being a part of the network will be a positive thing for your school.
18
Westcroft Special School, Wolverhampton and the Get Set network
Reasons for joining: Access to resources. The chance to visit the Olympic Park, or have visits from athletes. Contribute to an educational legacy through partnership working, and encouraging others to join the network too. In their application, they said: Westcroft would love to be part of the Get Set network. As a special school for children 5-19 years we have a unique opportunity to inspire students and staff to become part of the London 2012 Games and influence whole school learning. The resources available on the website will support the development of our curriculum leading up to 2012 and will allow us to stage assemblies and one day whole school events based on the Olympics and Paralympics and their values. We would also relish the opportunity to have the chance to visit the Olympic Park in London or be visited by an Olympian past/present as this will inspire both staff and students. As a Sports College and hub school for the Westcroft SSP we want to spread the legacy of the Games across partner and partnership schools and have begun work on doing so. Being a network school and encouraging and supporting others to do so is one of our major aims.
19
What have you done to demonstrate a commitment to the Values?
Work with Get Set resources – or come up with your own project ideas for how the Values can be brought to life for your students. What is unique about your school community that shows a commitment to the Values? We welcome your creativity! To answer the second question in the application form, you need to show how London 2012 has already had an impact on the school, and share any activities you have done that link to the Games and the Values. Remember – Get Set is not prescriptive – anything goes as long as the Values are at the heart of it. Here, assessors want to see how London 2012 has added value to your school community, so focus on what’s new/changed as a result of the Games and the Values. Have you enhanced an existing initiative/activity to make it about the Games/Values? Have you introduced something new which highlights the Games and the Values?
20
Gosberton House Special School, Lincolnshire and the Values
Using the inspiration of the Games to build on the school ethos about living and working together successfully. Assemblies to promote the Values. Reinforce self-esteem and celebrate success. In their application, Gosberton House Special School said they have demonstrated a commitment to the Values in the following ways: The main ethos of our school is about living together and working together. As a special school the promotion of how we prepare the children for future is paramount. We are always looking for ‘real’ opportunities to use to reinforce quality behaviour and values. To this end, we are delivering a number of assemblies in the school about Olympic and Paralympic Values. However, we see this as not merely a one off, but something that will filter across the school throughout the curriculum, in playground and out of school.
21
What do you plan to do in the future?
How can you progress and develop your work on the Values? How will you celebrate in 2012? Will you continue to work with the Values after the Games? In your response to this question, assessors simply want to know what else you have planned and how you will continue your Values related work? Is the activity you have already done something you will repeat, perhaps with other year groups? This question is about legacy – how will the Values continue to enrich your whole-school community after the Games are over?

Victoria Education Centre in Poole’s
future plans Young disabled leaders to deliver Values learning to mainstream primary schools and the local community. Publish students’ achievements on the Get Set blog. Link the Values to existing enrichment programmes. In their application, the Victoria Education Centre shared the following future plans: We will ensure all students know, understand, believe in and demonstrate the values of the Olympics and Paralympics by linking our enrichment programmes and celebration assemblies to the values. Additionally, teachers will work with students to ensure their curriculum is enhanced by using the Get Set programme resources and that all students are involved in recording and publishing their achievements through blogs and case studies. Young disabled sports leaders will also play a key part in delivering the Values to main stream partner school children and wider community groups. We are also excited about our new International Inspiration project and are looking forward to building this action plan with London 2012 as a key focus area.
