ICONIC IMAGES

2 Task Students will research primary sources on Iconic events/images of WW II . After examining the documents students will select eight images, symbols, writings, statistics, quotes, from each event and complete a dialectical journal.

3 Definitions: A dialectical journal is a journal that records a dialogue, or conversation between data a student gathers in the form of writings, images, artifacts, quotes etc. and personal reflections and responses to that data.

4 Definitions: Personal reflections and responses to that data can take the form of comments, questions reflections, poems, diagrams, symbols etc., but should not be a narrative. For the purposes of this assignment , your response/reflection should be the equivalent of a 5-8 sentence paragraph.

5 Definitions: Iconic a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol of something.

NAME _________________________________________________ Task: A dialectical journal is another name for a double-entry journal or a reader-response journal. A dialectical journal is a journal that records a dialogue, or conversation between data you gather in the form of writings, images, artifacts, quotes etc. and your personnel reflections and responses to that data. Instructions: In the boxes on the left, indicate symbols or quotes that are icons of WW II In the right boxes write or otherwise represent your personal reflections or feelings about the images/quotes on the left.

Is there Is there any more hated symbol in the world? Everyone sees the swastika as the ultimate image of evil. The swastika is a very old symbol . What a shame it was twisted into such an evil purpose. What an idiot. Neville Chamberlain telling The world that the 1938 Munich Agreement giving Germany Czech territory in exchange for peace. Germany took over all of Czechoslovakia just a year later.

In this picture it shows a sailor and a nurse after the war was over. This picture sparked hope in many people. To see two people embrace in love. Knowing that it was over

11 Hiroshima As the bomb fell over Hiroshima and exploded,we saw an entire city disappear. I wrote in my log the words “ my god what have we done?” Hiroshima was destroyed the bomb that was dropped by american air fighters

This is the flag for communist Japan. It symbolizes the rising sun.Which is what the country's nickname was. The country of the rising sun .

13 Iwo jima “Among the men who fought on Iwo Jima , uncommon valor was a common virtue.” Iwo Jima was one of the only battle that japan fought on their own homeland.this was a major event in world war because it was the only homeland the us marines captured from japan.
