Terms and Objectives Objectives
Be able to name the three branches of the Canadian government system. Describe the individual functions of each branch and the role each branch plays in the system. Be able to name the major levels of the judicial branch. Know the flow of a case through the judicial branch. Name the provincial and federal justice ministers and be able to use the Constitution to defend why there is a justice minister at both levels. Justice System: Just the Government?
Task: Find an organization that contributes to the delivery of justice in BC or Canada. What is its mandate? What is its function in the system? To whom/what are they accountable? In what ways do they contribute to the delivery of justice? What are the strengths and limitations of “government first” responsibility for justice?

What are the four principles?
The Rule of Law What are the four principles? Divide into 8 groups, two for each principle. One side arguing how Canada is fulfilling this principle, the other how Canada is neglecting this principle.
