AIM OF THE PROJECT Converting Electro-mechanical contactors based motor control circuits into PLC based control circuits.

ABSTRACT In general, Fuel Oil Pump House (FOPH) plays a vital role in power generating stations. FOPH supplies fuel oil to Boiler Furnace during Boiler Lighting-up conditions and also for flame stability purpose at the time unscheduled reduction in solid fuel flow to the Boiler Furnace. Fuel oil pumps are used to pump fuel oil to the furnace. These pumps are driven by 3-phase AC induction motors.Power supply to these motors are taken from common 0.4kv bus system. This bus system gets power from different sources in order to maintain power supply to this sytem. Elaborate arrangements have been made to run the bus system without power failure.

EXISTING METHOD Power supply to these motors are at present controlled by power contactors which in turn are being controlled by control contactors. For this controlling purpose, we have to employ hard-wired logic & interlocking circuits and electro mechanical type control contactors.

DISADVANTAGE Requires large number of relays.
Requires Large no. of control contactors. Electro-mechanical contactors occupy large space and hence panel size and cost are high. Contactors operations are noisy It makes physical wiring more complex. Naturally the trouble-shooting time will become long.

PROPOSED METHOD In this project, the PLC system technology is used for monitoring and control of drives employed in FOPH. PLC has superior communication capabilities with PC and other network peripherals.

ADVANTAGE reduce the trouble-shooting time.
minimize physical wiring/cabling. Reduce the control contactors. Reduces the contrl panel space.

SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM

DIAGRAM EXPLANATION From the block diagram, if there is no source from pressurized pump-A source or bus source-1 or bus source-2 it always indicate the bus dead command Q6. If any one of the sources or all the sources of 0.4kvbusses and unit source is healthy then the incomer circuit is energized corresponded to the source availability. There are two modes. One is local mode in this mode the main valve or the recirculation valve are not operated. This mode only for the testing purpose of drives condition. Another mode is remote mode. In this mode operation only the main valve or recirculation valve are in action.

CONCLUSION The process inputs are connected directly to the PLC input module. More than 80% of physical wiring has been avoided using this intelligent hardware, whose operation purely depends on software. It does not require physical timers, counters.
