DNA Replication Associate the process of DNA replication with it’s biological significance.

When? Before mitosis & meiosis (cell division)(S-phase) Where? always in the nucleus

DNA Replication in 4 steps

1- The DNA unwinds at the bottom & begins to unzip
(because an enzyme: helicase)

2-DNA polymerase synthesizes new strands of DNA in the 5’ to 3’ direction
3- Free floating nitrogen bases begin to pair up with the unzipped DNA (A with T & C with G)

Each strand will contain 1 new & 1 old DNA molecule
4- Once the DNA has been unzipped, and all the pairs have been made, it will separate at the top and an exact copy of the DNA will have been made. Each strand will contain new & 1 old DNA molecule
