1 The Distributive Property
Do you remember the previous properties we discussed?

2 Prayer – Hail Holy Queen with the intention of respect for ALL life.

3 Find 3 partners - They must be different than the three you had yesterday!

4 Three friends went to a baseball game
Three friends went to a baseball game. Each ticket cost $20 and all three friends bought a baseball hat for $15 each. What does the expression 3( ) represent? 3 represents: ______________________________ 20 represents: _____________________________ 15 represents: _____________________________

5 Evaluate the expression: 3(20 + 15) What does 3 x 20 + 3 x 15 equal
Evaluate the expression: 3( ) What does 3 x x 15 equal? What do you notice about the two answers?

6 Distributive property
Words - To multiply a sum by a number, multiply each addend by the number outside the parenthesis Simple Words – Multiply the outside number to everything in the parenthesis. 2 ( ) = 2 x x 4 a(b + c) = ab + ac

7

8 Find each product mentally. Show the steps you used.
5 x 12 x 2 x 3.6

9 Use the distributive property to rewrite 2(w+3)
2 (w + 3) = 2 (w) + 2 (3) = 2w + 6

10 Use the distributive property to rewrite each expression

11 Fran is making a pair of earrings and a bracelet for four friends
Fran is making a pair of earrings and a bracelet for four friends. Each pair of earrings uses 4.5 centimeters of wire and each bracelet uses 13 centimeters. Write two equivalent expression and then find how much total wire is needed.

12 Each day, Martin lifts weights for 10 minutes and runs on the treadmill for 25 minutes. Write two equivalent expressions and then find the total minutes that Martin exercises for 7 days.

13 Get with your #3 partner and decide which property is being demonstrated
4 + 9 = 9 + 4 (2 x 4) x 5 = 2 x (4 x 5) = 100 x 1 = 100 6(3+2) =

14 Solve with your #2 Partner
3 ( 2x + 8 ) 5 ( 3p + 2) 2 ( s + 9)

15 Independent – Find my mistake
4 ( 2p + 8 ) (4 x 2p) + 8 8p + 8 8 ( 3z + 2 ) (8 x 3z) + (8 x 2) 24 z + (8 x 2)

16 Solve on your own, then check with side to side partner when both are finished
Michael bought 4 basketballs and 4 baseballs. The cost of one basketball is $12. The cost of one baseball is $4. Write two equivalent expressions and then find the total cost.

17 INDEPENDENT 7 ( 3 + 4x ) 10 ( 2p + 6r) 3 ( f + 9 )

18 Learn zillion – preview of what is to come.

19 When numeric or algebraic expressions are written as a product of their factors, the process is called factoring the expression.

20 TERM – each part of an algebraic expression separated by an operation sign

21

22 Factor each expression
