When we want to tell a friend to do something we use informal (tú) commands…
¡Come! – EAT!
¡Camina!- WALK!
¡Duerme!- SLEEP!
What looks familiar about these endings?

3. Positive Commands
There are both affirmative (Do it) and negative commands (Don’t do it).
Lets begin with the do’s (positive tú commands)
To state the do’s of most verbs, drop the –s ending of the verb.
STATEMENT COMMAND
(tú) caminas ¡Camina! Walk!
(tú) comes ¡Come! Eat!
(tú) duermes ¡Duerme! Sleep!

4. Negative Commands To state the don’ts- negative (tú) commands
Switch the –as ending to –es and the –es endings to –as… BUT start with the YO form, drop the “o” and then add the opposite ending of the tu form.
STATEMENT COMMAND
(tú) fumas (yo fumo) ¡No fumes! Don’t smoke!
(tú) corres (yo corro) ¡No corras! Don’t run!
(tú) duermes(yo duermo) ¡No duermas! Don’t sleep!
(tú) traes (yo traigo) ¡No lo traigas! Don’t bring it!

5. Verbs with spelling changes…
There are several verbs that change spelling when made into negative commands to keep their sound…
1. Jugar- ¡No juegues!
- g changes to gue to keep the hard g sound
2. Verbs ending in –car like
Practicar - ¡No practiques!
-c changes to a que to keep the hard k sound

6. Let’s work on negative commands…
These next verbs have spell changes…
Either g changes to gue OR c changes to a que
Don’t play in the house!
- Verb jugar- in tú form = juegas
- Change –as to –es and remember spelling change!= juegues
¡No juegues en la casa!

7. Pronouns with commands
With affirmative commands, ATTACH the pronoun to the command.
Ex: Buy it today Cómpralo hoy.
Ex: Wash your face. Lávate la cara.

8. Pronouns with commands
With negative commands, the pronoun is placed in front of the verb.
Ex: Don’t buy it now.
No lo compres ahora.
Ex: Don’t wash your face with that soap.
No te laves la cara con ese jabón.
