Key messages from State of the Region Report 2006
The BSR has benefited from globalization but this effect is slowly receding, raising the need to confront the challenges of a sparsely populated region The BSR achieves stronger economic growth than other regions, but its performance on world markets and investment attraction is less impressive The BSR is among the most competitive locations in the world, but some non-EU countries have been more effective in upgrading competitiveness A wide range of efforts to improve competitiveness are under way in the BSR, better integration into a consistent strategy could strengthen the effectiveness
