MUSICIANS!

What does a musician do all day?
Performing – at weddings, restaurants, parties, community clubs and care homes. Teaching – at home, in schools and in colleges. Administration – this includes getting bookings from venues, keeping accounts and advertising. Lots and lots of practice!

What I like about my job I make a living doing something I love. Variety – no two days are the same! I enjoy the mixture of teaching and performing and all the different places I visit for performances. Being self-employed … that means I’m my own boss! The challenge of learning new pieces of music – it’s really rewarding.
5
What I dislike about my job
Sometimes being self-employed is difficult … unless I am motivated to get bookings, I don’t get paid! Having to spend time on aspects of the job like marketing when I would prefer to be playing the piano or teaching. On the whole though, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages
6
What does ‘self-employed’ mean?
If you are self-employed, you have to do all of the things an employer would do for you, like … Advertising Taxes Insurance Travel arrangements Make bookings Accounts Secretarial jobs … you have to be really organised and able to motivate yourself!
