at home & external accelerators:
V.Kekelidze Introduction The Laboratory of High Energy Physics was founded a year ago in order to carry out researches in relativistic heavy ions, spin physics & particle physics The major activity within this year was dedicated to: design, development & construction of the JINR basic accelerator complex NICA providing relativistic heavy ions & polarized beams preparation of experimental program at NICA & organization of international collaborations related to that design & construction of corresponding detectors MPD & SPD continuation of relevant experimental researches at home & external accelerators: a study of various phases of strongly interacting matter, urgent topics of particle physics & spin physics 10 June 2009 V.Kekelidze, PP PAC

Research program in physics
V.Kekelidze Research program in physics Fields of research in accordance with the JINR Road Map: Relativistic Heavy Ion physics (RHIP) at NICA + external Spin Physics (SP) at NICA + external Particle Physics (PP) including: SM checks & search for new physics at LHC Flavoure physics (new physics) First of all researches at NICA should be provided Further strategy for participation in external experiments requires visible scientific contribution from JINR physicists: RHIP complementary to ones at NICA/MPD PP not available at NICA 10 June 2009 V.Kekelidze, PP PAC

Principles of planning for 2010 -2016
V.Kekelidze Principles of planning for Fields of research are well defined in accordance with the JINR Road Map, which definitely will be relevant until 2016 The major activity for the forthcoming years should be concentrated on NICA & experiments MPD & SPD This activity requires essential resources part of it ($148M) is already foreseen in the budget additional resources (~ equivalent part) should be found as dedicated grants & contributions by collaborations There is a limited possibility to carry out other projects which should be well estimated from many points of view – physics relevance, JINR recognition, resources optimization 10 June 2009 V.Kekelidze, PP PAC

Conclusions The strategic plans of VBLHEP is based on
V.Kekelidze Conclusions The strategic plans of VBLHEP is based on the development of home accelerator facility, corresponding scientific program & well selected researches at external facilities Consolidation requires the bulk of resources in 2010 – 2016 to be dedicated to NICA / MPD These resources are well evaluated & essential part of it - foreseen in the budget extra resources attraction - in progress Manpower consolidation will be continued 10 June 2009 V.Kekelidze, PP PAC
