How do you measure a win? Engage the practice of serenity… You can choose an approach… What is the problem to be solved? The end is the beginning!

And when you have to say no…
Earlier is better, if that is the inevitable response. If the answer is demanded now, no is the safer choice. Time might produce at least a partial yes. Tone and attitude are everything.
