1 Ms. Thomas’s Classroom Rules, Consequences, Procedures, and Rewards
7th and 8th Grade Science

2 Welcome I would like to welcome all of you to the 7th and 8th grade. We are going to have a great year. However, there is some essential information that I need to go over with you to have an effective an efficient classroom. I am a no nonsense teacher. I love to teach and see students learn. Education is very important ;therefore, class time must be spent for learning.

3 Biography of Teacher My name is Ms. Thomas I have been teaching for 9 years . I have a Bachelor’s Degree from Auburn University Montgomery. I served four years in the Student Government Association and was also selected by the Dean of the university to be a representative. I have been awarded several academic scholarships. I graduated with my master’s in secondary science education from Faulkner University. I obtained an Ed.S. from Auburn University Montgomery in Secondary Special Education. I have written published a science curriculum for the International Academy of Sciences.

4 Classroom Rules Be Respectful
Follow all adult directions the first time they are given. Raise your hand and wait to be recognized before speaking. Use appropriate language and conversational tone. Use kind words and actions. Respect the property of others. Raise your hand and ask permission to leave your seat.

5 Consequences First offense: redirection, documented in behavior log of check on behavior management form Second offense: redirection, documentation, Third offense: documentation Fourth offense: Step on behavior management form and call home. Please note that there can be other consequences such as timeout, silent lunch, break detention, loss of privileges. Students that receive a step will not be allowed to go on a PBS field trip.

8 Procedures Opening Routine
Students need to sit down take out notebooks and paper. Students need to begin bell work. Next, You will need to wait for me to give directions. Lessons Students are to be respectful to me during lessons. Students are to be engaged during the lessons and on-task. Note taking Label each section of the paper with a heading. There will be a summary written after all notes that are taken in class that may be taken up for a grade. Put dots or asterisks for key points discussed during lessons. I will emphasize significant points from notes that need to be taken. Notes will be graded for a daily grade or homework grade when I do notebook checks. Notebook quizzes are given to ensure that notes are taken and these count as grades.

9 Procedures Note taking Students are to take notes.
Students are to put all vocabulary and reading checks with questions and answers in their notebooks. Students are to draw any graphic organizer used for discussion of a lesson in their notebooks or glue it in there. Assignments that are not for the notebook will be specified There can be quizzes on notes to check understanding of material. Assignments Assignments will be in a designated area every day. The area will be labeled assignments. Assignments will be placed in the assigned class period. Assignments are to be turned in the tray labeled with the class period on it. Some assignments will be timed to ensure that you are working diligently. Group Work Students will be assigned to groups based on the row that they are in alphabetically. Students are not allowed to pick their groups. All students in the group are to participate. All students are to work quietly when doing group assignments.

10 Procedures Homework will be posted in a designated area of the board.
Exams Exams will be given on Monday or Wednesday and will be posted on the school calendar. Students must not speak during a test. Homework Homework will be posted in a designated area of the board. Homework is to be turned in at the beginning of class. Homework will be assigned on Monday and Turned in on Friday. There can be more than one homework assignment given. Cell Phone Usage Cell Phones are not allowed out in the classroom during instructional time unless you are allowed by me.

11 Tardiness & Behavior Playing and talking in the hall will cause you to be tardy. Students will sign the tardy log. Please note that three unexcused tardies can affect exemption and cause the student not to be exempt. Disciplinary measures such as ATS and ECAP can potentially affect exemption.

13 Procedures Seating Arrangements
Students will be in assigned seats in alphabetical order or any order deemed necessary by the teacher. Make-up Work Students will be given an opportunity to makeup missing assignments. Maintaining the Classroom Environment Students are to respect their classroom environment by being neat and clean. Respect the other students and the teacher. Entering and Exiting Classroom Students are to be quiet and line up in a single file line for lunch, fire drill, assembly, restroom, or dismissal.

14 Procedures Dismissal from Class When the teacher dismisses you.
Seating area must be clean of all paper and trash before the student leaves the classroom. Group Work Students are to be engaged in the lesson. Students are to use low voices while in their group. All students’ names must be on the paper to be turned in for group work. Student Participation is required. End of Class Procedure Make sure that all paper is off of the floor. Make sure homework assignment is copied into your notebook. I must dismiss you from class.

15 Procedures Science Lab Procedures Students are to be quiet.
I will go over the lab activity with the students. Students that break a rule will not be allowed back into the lab until a conference is held with parents. Labs are major grades so any horse play can impact your grade. Computer Lab Procedures Students need to line up in a single file line and stay quiet.

16 Procedures Gaining the Attention of the Teacher
Students are to remain quiet. Students are to raise their hands and wait to be acknowledged. Guest Speaker Students are to be on their best behavior. Students are to raise their hands and wait to be acknowledged by the teacher. Student Behavioral Steps Students will be given step for inappropriate behavior and parents will be contacted.

17 Rewards Verbal praise Positive contact with parents
Nomination for end of the year awards.

18 Summary We will work hard and I will challenge you to learn.
