Falling Objects Physics 1 Dimensional Motion Chapter 2 Section 3 – pages 60-65
2
Falling Objects Freely falling objects undergo constant acceleration
Free fall – motion of an object falling with a constant acceleration Free fall g (acceleration due to gravity) has magnitude and direction
3
Falling Objects a = -g = m/s2 = acceleration down due to gravity What goes up, must come down If any object is thrown up into the air, the acceleration is always -9.81m/s2 Always have same acceleration down Magnitude and direction of velocity are changing
4
Falling Objects Displacement in the vertical direction (up and down) = Δy Replace “a” with “g”
