We emphasize the death and destruction. While that is incredibly important to note, we don’t usually talk much about the victims themselves—who they were, and how some survived. It is easy to remember Hitler’s name, but much more difficult to recall the name of any one survivor. Much like in mass shootings today, the perpetrator’s name is broadcasted everywhere
