1 December Library Report
Sedgefield Elementary 2016 Anastasia Samsky, Librarian We’re building a library program that makes real-world connections.

2 All students at Sedgefield are participating in the Reading Makes Cents challenge.
We started by defining needs and wants. Second graders learned about A Good Trade and compared it to the read-aloud of My Rows and Piles of Coins.

3 In a brainstorming activity, first graders made connections with Pat Brisson’s Benny’s Pennies (1995) by thinking of things they would buy. Students wrote their choices then drew pictures to illustrate those choices. Reading Makes Cents Selection

4 During check-out, students are encouraged to continue making connections. They engage in cooperative and independent activities that include sequencing puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and reading for pleasure. Jigsaw puzzles and pleasure reading Second Grade Sequencing puzzles

5 Third graders have been exploring biographies and famous people
Third graders have been exploring biographies and famous people. This lesson comes as a request from third grade teachers who asked for “a review of famous people from first and second grades.” Teachers have checked out additional biographies for classroom use to support this information review.

6 Some third graders recognized that Frederick Douglass—a famous person—made a special visit to our library during Saturday’s 21st Century program (Young Audiences).
