Ancient Egyptians Autumn Term Year 3/4 Science English Geography ICT
We will be identifying that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition, and that they cannot make their own food; they get nutrition from what they eat. Also, identifying that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement. We will then investigate solids, liquids and gases. English We will be studying the book ‘The Scarab’s Secret’ and our focus is on narrative settings. We will then investigate non-fiction recounts and the discovery of Tutankhamen! Finally, we will Write a character description of the Egyptian Cinderella! Geography We will be locating continents , the Equator, the tropics, the hemispheres and Egypt. We will be studying the River Nile, creating a map of Egypt and locating important landmarks like the pyramids. ICT We will be using Google to search, insert pictures and add text about the Ancient Egyptians. We will then create a PowerPoint about an Egyptian god or goddess. We will use Scratch to create a game within a maze. P.S.H.C.E (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) New Beginnings Resilience- Make me a Superhero Relationships- Mathematics Maths Mastery Place Value- Hundreds, Tens and ones. Year 3 numbers to 1,000. Year 4 Numbers to 10,000. Addition and subtraction –mental and written methods. Problems solving and reasoning. Going deeper! Ancient Egyptians Autumn Term Year 3/4 Key Question: What would it have been like to live in Ancient Egypt?. MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) We will be learning numbers to 10, common greetings and classroom instructions . We will begin to ask simple questions in French. We will then look at the days of the weeks, months of the year and parts of the body. Art / D&T We will begin with colour mixing using paint. We will look at the works of artists for inspiration and look at how the Egyptians' painted their tombs. We will paint an Egyptian wall painting based on the story of ‘The Blue Hippo’. History In History, we will do an in depth study of the Ancient Egyptians. We will learn about who built the pyramids and the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb. We will then look at the achievements of the earliest civilizations gaining an overview of where and when the first civilizations appeared : Ancient Sumer, The Indus Valley, Ancient Egypt and The Shang Dynasty of Ancient China Music Mamma Mia - Egyptian songs- topic themed songs on the River Nile and the pyramids.. R.E We will discuss ideas about the creation of the world. We will look at the Jewish/Christian creation story. We will be able to explain humans’ role in looking after the world. We will find out how Christians communicate with God. P.E This term in PE we will be using REAL PE – Unit 1 (Personal Skills) as well as Swimming. We will then learn an Dance based on the Egyptians!
