The Baby Beeper Program
Student initiated in 2003 FMIG Activity – open to all students Key buy-in from: L&D nurses FM residents

Student leadership and coordination Student sign-up sheet Beepers (hospital pagers) Reminder signs for FM residents Scrubs for students

Baby Beeper Program Challenges
Student Issues Never got beeped Didn’t have legitimate role in delivery Resident Issues Working with a strange student Not a priority under stress Discouraging experiences when students didn’t answer or gave an excuse

Maternal Care & Delivery Program
Student-resident initiated FMIG activity – open to all students Designed to improve experience for students, residents, and pregnant mothers through continuity care

Student and resident leadership Pairing residents and students Cell phones instead of beepers Each student teamed with: Family Medicine resident Pregnant patient Students participate in both pre- and postnatal care

Labor & Delivery Support Workshops
Students asked faculty for help Wanted practical knowledge/skills Wanted to have something to offer/do Developed workshop with faculty Two formats: 8-hour all day workshop 3-hour evening workshop
