A few pointers when completing an application for a Scholarship:
Check to make sure you meet the requirements of the scholarship before applying. Advance preparation is required – do not wait until the last minute to complete your application! Treat applying to scholarships like a part-time job – it takes work! Follow the instructions very carefully and fully complete each application. Have a parent help you (proofreading, work and volunteer experiences, etc.) There are hundreds of scholarships available. If you are planning on applying for scholarships make sure you are selective. Ask yourself - Do I meet the selection criteria? Apply to the scholarships that best suit you. It is important to find a balance here – your marks are important as well. Some of these scholarships target specific groups of people. For example, one of the requirements for the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation Scholarshipis you must be of First Nations, Inuit or Metis Heritage. 8
