Historians argue that Britain followed a policy of appeasement because they did not know any better – Chamberlain thought it would work in the end…
Chamberlain followed a “play the game” approach to diplomacy.
Chamberlain had only really had experience with men who he could trust and so he could not see why this situation would be any different.
