1 1000 Hour GreyTM Ni-PTFE Plating
Nickel Polytetrafluoroethylene, also known as nickel-Teflon, or Nickel-PTFE is one of the interconnect industry’s most important new plating innovations, and Glenair is ahead of the pack with a new solution that outperforms all other currently available Nickel-PTFE plating processes. This brief presentation which explains the significant performance advantages of the Glenair Nickel-PTFE conductive finish, 1000 Hour Grey, the solution for advanced corrosion protection and cadmium-free RoHs compliance. 1000 Hour GreyTM Ni-PTFE Plating

2 Key Facts Ni-PTFE polymer over nickel-alloy underplate with special organic nano-coat Meets the requirements of MIL-DTL Rev. L The Glenair 1000 Hour GreyTM plating process is far superior to standard Metal-alloy polymer plating solutions. To get us started, here are some of the key facts you should know about 1000 Hour Grey: Nickel-polymer plating has been available for some time in the interconnect industry, but has failed to achieve widespread acceptance because plating porosity led to poor corrosion protection at only 250 hours of salt spray protection. Legacy tetrafluoroethylene (or TFE) plating processes were also notoriously poor electrical performers. Shell-to-shell resistance was much higher than acceptable in conductive EMI applications. Durability was also an issue. In short, attempts to eliminate cadmium from the plating process with metal alloy polymer solutions have, until now, been met with failure. But now Glenair has developed a new nickel-fluorocarbon polymer plating process that fulfills all the original promises of metal-alloy-polymer solutions AND offers many additional new performance advantages. The Glenair 1000 Hour Grey plating process begins with a special nickel alloy underplate, followed by an ultra-thin Nickel-PTFE polymer treatment, and finally a special organic nano-coat that effectively seals the conductive finish from galvanic corrosion while improving lubricity and mating. 1000 Hour Grey is not some esoteric solution with little industry backing or recognition. The process fully complies to the requirements of plating code “T” in the new MIL-DTL rev. L mil-spec. In a nutshell, Gleniar’s process is far superior to legacy metal alloy polymer plating solutions and is a better, more suitable, substitute for lesser-performing zinc-nickel and other cadmium-free plating processes.

3 Performance Highlights
This slide summarizes the features and attributes of 1000 Hour Grey. Just to highlight a few of the most important points: 1000 Hour Grey provides: 1000 Hours of salt spray protection 336 Hours of Sulfur Dioxide resistance Exceptional mating lubricity and durability Excellent adhesion to aluminum, stainless steel and composites. Low shell-to shell resistance In addition to all of these benefits, 1000 Hour Grey is a good substitute for non-reflective olive drab coloring.

4 RoHS Compliant CAD Free Hexavalent Chromium Free
Appropriate for use in public transportation and other RoHS application environments. Although mil-spec parts are exempt from RoHS, there are many many non-military markets, such as the transportation and rail industries that rely on the outstanding performance of mil-spec connectors but require their interconnect systems to be RoHS compliant. 1000 Hour Grey is free of cadmium and hexavalent chromium, the two most common RoHS-controlled substances found in other plating solutions. Please note that while the 1000 Hour Grey plating process is RoHS compliant, it is possible that other components of a particular interconnect component, such as soldered contacts may contain RoHS-controlled substances. Feel free to contact the Glenair factory for information on the broader issues of RoHs compliance.

5 Availability 1000 Hour Grey plating is available NOW on many Glenair product offerings, including all MIL-DTL type connectors and compatible accessories, and other products including composite backshells, Micro-D connectors, Series 79 Micro-Crimp connectors as well as our Series 80 Mighty Mouse family of connectors and cables. Composite thermoplastic base materials allow 1000 Hour Grey to exceed 2000 hours of salt-spray resistance. Stainless steel products also offer enhanced corrosion levels over aluminum. But the most important figure is that this revolutionary process is available now from Glenair with accelerated lead-times and a growing list of off-the-shelf component part numbers. Please note the plating codes for 1000 Hour Grey vary according to product line. Please contact the factory for additional information and/or product samples. Thank you for your interest in Glenair and our 1000 Hour Grey plating process. Available NOW as a standard plating choice on all MIL-DTL connectors and compatible accessories. Available NOW on selected other product families including composites, Micro-D’s and Mighty Mouse. New! ZMT: Stainless Steel Base Material
