3 What is the Azure CLI? Command-line tool along-side Azure PowerShell
9/4/2018 9:02 PM What is the Azure CLI? Command-line tool along-side Azure PowerShell Focused on Mac/Linux/BASH/cmd.exe Simple to automate Easy to learn Welcome, my name is Jason R Shaver, and I'm going to spend a few minutes showing you our newest command-line tool, the Azure CLI 2.0. I expect some of you watching might have just thought: [voice] "hey, don't you already have one? What about Azure PowerShell?" Great question 'funny voice jason', our intent is for both Azure Powershell and Azure CLI to live side-by-side addressing different customers, and different workloads, but with a generous overlap. The Azure CLI is for folks who prefer Linux or TEXT-style tooling and want to live in a BASH shell. We're focused on being the best tool for automating Azure on Mac, Linux, BASH on Windows, and even the windows command prompt. In addition to being easy to automate, we've also built some exciting features for making Azure easier to learn- and-explore than ever. © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. 4 Great for automation Support for JSON and UNIX-style output
9/4/2018 9:02 PM Great for automation Support for JSON and UNIX-style output Built in query processor (JMESPath) Clean output right to a $VAR Transformations and filtering No prompting, no hung scripts Easy to create Service Principals First, let's focus on automation Wether you need to shut-down all your VMs at the end of the week, or are building a cloud-hosted website and want to automate some load testing, you have likely found yourself wishing for a simpler way to safely and quickly automate the cloud. The Azure CLI supports the ability to select the right output for the task at hand with commands that output your choice of JSON, a human readable 'table' format, or the GREP and AWK-able output of our 'Tab Separated Values' format. When writing automation scripts, it's common to have to filter out some data, format it in a specific way, and pass it onto another command or tool. So we've built in the "query feature" that allows you to extract the exact value you need and get it into the format you want. Beyond just tool features, we've put a lot of time into addressing common difficulties and have built in a number of connivence features, such as creating an Service Principal in a single command as an identity you can use for running scheduled 'cron jobs'. Let me show you just a few quick examples © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. MICROSOFT MAKES NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, AS TO THE INFORMATION IN THIS PRESENTATION.

6 Great for exploration Consistent documentation: on-line and in-tool
9/4/2018 9:02 PM Great for exploration Consistent documentation: on-line and in-tool [Tab] completion for Commands Resource groups Resource names Parameter values New Interactive mode preview Intellisense Gestures and Defaults Example-based tutorials But we're not just an automation tool. The Azure CLI is great for learning and exploring Azure, and we provide a number of examples for some common, yet difficult operations. While using the Azure CLI, you'll find that [tab completion] can make you more productive, keeping you from having to pause as you look up a Resource Group or parameter. And, new to the Azure CLI, we've added an 'interactive' mode that gives you some amazing productivity features, such as intellisense, gestures, scoping, or even the ability to step you through an example. Let's go straight into a demo © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. MICROSOFT MAKES NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, AS TO THE INFORMATION IN THIS PRESENTATION.

8 Getting started Getting started: http://aka.ms/AzureCLI2
9/4/2018 9:02 PM Getting started Getting started: We're in the Azure Cloud Shell Preview! Leave feedback and suggestions in-tool via Bugs and Issues: If you'd like to give us a look, you'll find links below, but if a download is too much, we're happy to announce at Build that you can now find us directly in the Azure Portal via the Azure Cloud Shell. Look for the icon on portal's toolbar and you'll find the CLI all setup, logged-in and ready to go. If you'd like to let us know how you feel, spin up the CLI and use the 'az feedback' command and tell us what you think. We're an open source project, so if you'd like to contribute or submit an issue, you'll find us on GitHub. Thank you, and happy building! © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
