1 Computer time Vs. Eyesight
By: Chris Di Loreto

2 Question How does time on the computer affect your eyesight?

3 MV, RV and CV’s MV: Time on the computer (5, 10 and 15 minutes)
MV: Different eye charts RV: Effect on eyesight CV: Distance the eye chart is at CV: Distance I sit from the computer CV: Color of words

4 Hypothesis If we spend 5, 10 and 15 minutes on the computer and read an eye chart afterwards, our eyesight will be negatively affected because while we use the computer for a certain amount of time our eyes get used to the distance were at. If we look away it will take our eyes longer to focus on the distance the sentence is at.

5 Steps to do the experiment
Procedure Materials Computer, chair, 3 eye charts. Steps to do the experiment Use the computer for 5 minutes Afterwards read an eye as the words start big and decrease in size Record how many letters you could read Read for 5 minutes Repeat steps 1-3 for 2 more trials (total of 3 trials) Repeat steps 1-5 but for 10 and 15 minutes of computer use

7 Data Table 5 Minutes 10 15 Trial 1 32/32 Letters 30/32 28/32 Trial 2
29/32 27/32 Trial 3

8 Conclusion If we spend 5, 10 and 15 minutes on the computer and read an eye chart afterwards, our eyesight will be negatively affected because while we use the computer for a certain amount of time our eyes get used to the distance were at. If we look away it will take our eyes longer to focus on the distance the sentence is at. My hypothesis was right. The low point in my data was 27 letters out of 32. My high point was 32 letters out of 32. The average is Therefore I learned that when using the computer for too long it will negatively affect your eyesight because after using the computer looking at something else will make you’re eyes focus on whatever you’re looking at.
