The History of Nome Nome is located in Northwest Alaska In 1898 the Anvil Creek gold discovery set off a boom. By ,000 people came to Nome to seek riches. Current population: 3500 Demographics: A mixture of Inupiat Eskimos and non- Natives. Subsistence is an important aspect of life in Nome

We worked in the NSHC Community Health Clinic, which is located few blocks from Front Street.

Prep for the Clinic Anchorage Pre-Clinic: Phone assessments, organizational planning, training and site visit coordination, paperwork review, and clinic prep Day of Clinic: Greeting, paperwork process, gathering HT/WT/HC documentation, patient observation. Post Clinic: Review of reports, filing, and post clinic summaries or reports.

The Evaluation Dr. Davis spends approximately minutes with each child and the family. Interviews parent or caregiver. Summarizes her findings 1 page recommendations given to parents She did an in-depth interview with the parent or care provider, simultaneously playing with the child, gathering behavioral data and completing a physical exam. At the end she wrote a brief, one page, summary of her findings and recommendations, which was sent home with the parent before they left the clinic. Later in the evening she spent more time dictating a comprehensive report to be sent to medical staff.

A Big Thank You! It was an awesome experience to travel with this team, observe and participate in the process. Typically there are more children seen each day, we saw only 3 total in Nome. Additional opportunities are typically available for community outreach and training with other agencies or families.
