2. Rock star Tom Petty has died, his manager Tony Dimitriades announced Monday. He was found in critical condition at his home in Malibu, California, Sunday night after suffering full cardiac arrest. Petty was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, where he died on Monday at 11:40 p.m. ET. Petty was a widely lauded songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. He was 66 years old. Petty had just concluded his 40th anniversary tour with his band, The Heartbreakers, on September 25. With his nasally voice and chiming guitar, Petty and his longtime band, the Heartbreakers, churned out an instantly recognizable brand of sturdy, heartland rock that made them a classic-radio staple for decades. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers recorded its debut album in 1976, an album that included two songs that became core songs in the rock 'n' roll canon: "Breakdown" and "American Girl.” Petty, along with the band, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Less than 24 hours after the massacre at an open-air country music concert in Las Vegas, authorities are still piecing together what shooter Stephen Paddock did in preparation for his deadly shooting rampage that left 59 people dead and 527 others injured. There is still a lot they don't know about what motivated Paddock to launch the most deadly mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said his deputies are still processing four crime scenes: the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, from where Paddock shot his victims; the venue at the Route 91 Harvest festival concert; Paddock's home in Mesquite, NV; and another home in Reno. Lombardo initially said that 16 weapons were found in Paddock's hotel room, where he had been staying since Sept. 28. Investigators found an additional 18 firearms in Paddock's Mesquite home. They also found several pounds of ammonium nitrate, a key component for making a bomb, in Paddock's car.
