Social Media Etiquette for the rest of us
#SMEtiquette Social Media Etiquette for the rest of us Amy Vernon @AmyVernon
2
The explosion of social media over the past decade has enabled us to connect with people we had lost touch with years ago, meet people we’d never have been able to before, and form new and strong friendships. It’s also enabled us to stick our collective feet in our mouths. Over. And over. And over. Amy Vernon @AmyVernon

Commenting (or responding to comments)
Make sure your intention is clear If you hesitate and wonder if it could be taken the wrong way, don’t say it. Clear the air if you are misunderstood – or if you misunderstood someone else. Photo by romana klee via Flickr Creative Commons Amy Vernon @AmyVernon

Connecting with strangers
You don’t have to accept every request. Don’t limit yourself by automatically not connecting with people. Consider the platform and how you use it. Be polite. Amy Vernon @AmyVernon Amy Vernon @AmyVernon
5
Be sparing in tagging people (or yourself) in photos
Is the person in the photo? Are you in the photo? Why are you tagging the person (or yourself)? Has the person untagged herself (or you) in previous photos? Amy Vernon @AmyVernon

A few words about privacy
Nothing is private, really. Don’t say anything you wouldn’t want publicly attached to your name. Don’t use private messaging to spam others. Asking to speak to someone in private before speaking in public can be off-putting. Amy Vernon @AmyVernon
