Service Learning “Service Learning is a form of practical experience that enhances learning in all areas of a nursing program, and the experience of service learning reinforces the moral and civic values inherent in service others.” (Ferris State University, 2013)

18 BSN Program Outcomes Generalist Nursing Practice
“Organize the interdisciplinary health care needs of diverse populations across the lifespan toward achieving the goal of healthy individuals, families, groups and communities” (Ferris State University, 2011). The medical team for this mission trip consisted of a 4 nurses, 1 social worker, 1 dental hygienist, an AMG doctor, and an AMG dentist. Because of the amount of children that required our services, we all had to work together in order to accomplish all of the tasks that needed to be completed.

19 BSN Program Outcomes Professionalism
“Demonstrate a level of professionalism that is congruent with the inherent values, ethics and behaviors of the discipline of nursing” (Ferris State University, 2011). Because the medical team was out traveling around Guatemala City, we had to represent ourselves as professionals at all times. The medical team was always wearing blue scrubs and was easily identified as “American Doctors” by the local Guatemalans. Because of safety concerns, we had to always present ourselves as responsible and respectable.

20 So… Adopted a child through AMG- Guatemala Zonia-6 years old
Zonia is a precious little girl. Unfortunately her father abandoned her when she was just a baby and he does not help her with anything. Last year her mother passed away. Now, Zonia is living with her grandmother in a small home built with tin walls, tin roofing, and a dirt floor. There are many family members living in this home making a total of 15 people. The home lacks appropriate furniture and all their meals are cooked over firewood. Zonia's aunt and grandmother are working to provide for Zonia and the family but their income is often not enough to meet all their basic needs. Your sponsorship will be a huge blessing in Zonia's life. The center will provide a safe place for Zonia while her grandmother works. Also, she will receive nutritious meals, medical care, a good education, and most importantly she will learn of God's great love
