10 An Environment for Sharing An Atmosphere of Trust A Focus of Agility
Accountability….. A Big Common Goal An Environment for Sharing An Atmosphere of Trust A Focus of Agility An Emphasis on Communication Each member of the team needs to understand and own the big goal. Each member needs to have a big picture idea of why the specific activity being performing is important. Often this goal is bigger than the individual project being performed. The top leadership team needs to own this goal, and they need to share the goal with the team. A key part of this common work environment is that everyone sees and to some extent hears what's going on as it happens. 3. If everyone is working together, there are no secrets. 4. To keep the energy level of the team up you need to have frequent goals. Big tasks need to be broken into smaller parts, and the team needs to be able to see regular progress. To drive to a fixed schedule everything needs to be done fast: plan quickly and iterate quickly. If you have to fail, fail fast, and fail early. If the strategy is not coming together or the wrong technical person is assigned to a section, the team learns quickly where the gaps are and corrects early. 5. Keep the communication up. Top leadership needs to share status. The leadership story needs to be a regular and honest assessment of how well the team is doing against the current goal. Have a common scorecard with milestones and accomplishments posted in an open location for all to see. The entire team needs to see where they are and what still needs to get done.
