8 Why – the rationale The Abbey School
A Business and Enterprise Academy Why – the rationale Our best and brightest can do very well at A-level, but the majority struggle Have always delivered excellent Vocational outcomes (VA /17) But lots of our students want that Academic/Vocational mix The International Baccalaureate Careers Programme (IBCP) offers us that mix: All elements coursework inclusive IB Diplomas on seven year “run” – no politicisation Volunteering Language and cultural development Students who “talk” the language of learning.

9 Evolution of the programme
The Abbey School A Business and Enterprise Academy Evolution of the programme Now into Year four. In year one we had two students, now have almost 40 Typically, we “link” our BTECs with our Diplomas (i.e. Psychology IB Diploma links well with Sport, Health & Social Care or Business) Currently run six Diploma subjects: Business & Management IT in a Global Society Psychology History Global Politics Social & Cultural Anthropology. Future – flexible offering for the most able worth up to 4.5 A-levels. Year 13 Year 12

10 Dedicated experts The Abbey School
A Business and Enterprise Academy Dedicated experts All the BTECs delivered by qualified experts All the IB Diplomas delivered by staff who have undergone IB training online/abroad/in Kent We also have a dedicated IB Co-Ordinator (an IB insistence, but a vital role) Furthermore a dedicated Service Learning Co-Ordinator Subject staff to mark Reflective Projects (similar to an EPQ) Dedicated Work Experience Co-Ordinator (wider role in school) A Raising Standards Leader to add extra academic expertise Next step is likely to be creation of an IB Reflective Project Co-Ordinator, particularly as we move towards essays!
