SOCS: Box Plots & Stem Plots
Judith Loya Julissa Padilla Andrew Crosby John Rebol
2
box Plot: What is it used for?
Numerical / Quantitative measures only Best for skewed data
3
SOCS: SHAPE Shape: Best to represent skewed data. Represents the shape that the data set makes in the graph.
4
SOCS: Outliers Outliers
5
SOCS: center Center: Use a Median measurement of center (outlier resistant)
6
SOCS: Spread Spread: IQR and Range
7
Stem Plot: What is it used for?
Numerical Data
8
Stem Plot: How are they made?
Divide each observation into a stem or leaf Leaf: Last digit in observation Stem: Contains all digit that precedes the leaf One Digit numbers have a 0 in the stem
9
SOCS: SHAPE Sideways looks like a Histogram
10
SOCS: Outliers
11
SOCS: CENTER Mean if symmetric
Median if not symmetric because it is resistant to outliers (graph to view symmetry)
12
SOCS: SPREAD Organized highest to lowest numbers
