Architecture competition for city block 10016
University is arranging the competition in 5/ /2016 Landowners: Senaatti and ACRE City planning committee’s aims for the planning of the Otaniemi central area The goal is to place commercial and other services, university’s facilities, students’ and organisations’ spaces and student housing in to the block. A mixed city structure with a variety of different functions is desirable. AYY’s interest includes also other parts in the competition, in addition to Student Center. Competition’s accuracy is low

Student Center Basics Aalto student organisations’ idea for a common building has been discussed several times in AYY’s history. For example, as a part of the reconciliation in property dispute and TF’s Träffpunkt Aalto project in 2014. KY’s entry to Otaniemi, current spaces leased from ACRE TF’s current spaces need a major overhaul in the near future Alternatives for Student Center’s location sketched in a case study in

University and espoo University’s attitude is carefully positive

Decission making Planned to be discussed step by step in the Council.
AYY’s ambition, risks and guidelines must be clarified before the actual decission. Representative Council meetings: AYYE 5/ : Discussion on Mountain Man architecture competition AYYE 6/ : Introduction for the process and facilities programme AYYE 7/ : Discussion on guidelines AYYE 8/2016 TBA: Decission of the guidelines The actual decission later in the process.

Discussion Guidelines for the competition programme Proposal
Approval of the joint facilities programme? Student housing? Other guidelines? (eg. cost, hybrid buildings) AYY takes part in the competition any case? Proposal Task force to advance with the facilities programme and introduces it to the Council in next meeting Decission for the joint programme to be made early (no minor details) AYY effects to the block planning considering both, Student Center and student housing projects Decissions to be made step by step, according to the plans advancement
