2 January 2017 doc.: IEEE /0059r0 January 2017 Introduction Several MIMO scenarios for 11ay have been proposed [1], and the contributions of [2]-[4] focus on MIMO scenario for open loop spatial multiplexing (OLSM). The contribution [3] proposed PH (Phase Hopping) as OLSM, and the contribution [4] proposed PH with precoding. The contribution [5] proposed additional EDMG-Header-A fields for PH and precoding. January 2017 doc.: IEEE /0059r0 January 2017 Necessity of EDMG capabilities related to OLSM The current SFD [6] defines PH and open loop precoding as follows. “When using the EDMG OFDM mode, the 11ay specification shall define SU EDMG PPDU transmission with and without phase hopping. An EDMG STA may support transmission and reception of SU EDMG PPDU with phase hopping. In this mechanism, the following apply:   - Precoding may be used and - The period of phase hopping is TBD.” It is necessary for receivers to transmit EDMG capabilities related to OLSM, because a transmitter needs to know whether receivers have a capability of demodulation of PH and precoding. To indicate whether receivers have a capability of demodulation of PH and precoding, phase hopping capability information (1bit)/Open loop precoding capability information (1bit) are needed in the core capabilities field of the EDMG capabilities element.
