Precious Lord, Take My Hand 2 Tim. 4:17-18
Purpose: To renew our commitment to turn to God in difficult times.

Introduction Thomas A. Dorsey was a famous jazz and blues musician and a father of gospel music. In 1932 he was married with a child on the way. He attended a revival and received a telegram stating that his wife had died. His son died also. He was consumed with grief. God had been unjust with him. He didn’t want to serve God. He was lost in grief. He later wrote this song and discovered that God is still with us even through difficult times.

Verse 1 When my way groweth drear, Precious Lord, linger near, When my life is almost gone; Hear my cry, hear my call, Hold my hand, lest I fall; Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home. Matt. 14: “Lord, save me!”

Verse 2 When the shadows appear, And the night draweth near, And the day is past and gone; At the river I stand, Guide my feet, hold my hand; Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home. John 6: “To whom shall we go?”

Chorus Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, let me stand, I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; Thru the storm, through the night, Lead me on to the light; Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home. Tired (Gal. 6:9-10); Weak (2 Cor. 12:7-10); Worn (2 Tim. 4:6-8). Precious Lord, Take My Hand, Thomas A. Dorsey (1938) words and music, © 1938 by Hill and Range Songs, renewed and assigned to Unichappell Music. CCLI #

Conclusion 2 Tim. 4: The Lord stood with Paul and strengthened him. He was delivered and preserved for the Lord’s purpose. Have you placed your life in the Lord’s hands? Take us by the hand, Lord, and lead us to that precious home above.
