1 Problem solving

2 Time control

3 Exercise 1 The project is the following: We have to create a prototype of some kind of a machine. The first step is planning the whole process (activity a, the expected duration is 5 days), than came the design phase (activity b, 6 days). Manufacturing is the third step and it contains two simultaneous production tasks (activity c, 7 days, activity d, 5 days), and then an assembly process (activity e, 2 days). The project closes with a testing phase (activity f, 4 days). Plot a simple PNT diagram. Identify the paths, the critical path(s), the critical activities, the TPT, and the activity floats. Plot the Gantt chart of the project. After 15 days, a and b are ready but nothing else. Identify/calculate PTPT, ATWP, SPI, PTWP, PTC, ETC, ETPT, expected time slip.

4 Cost control

5 Cost of the whole activity
Exercise 2 There is asmall project with the following network diagram: a b e c d The following table contains the information on the activity durations and costs: Activity label Duration (day) Cost of the whole activity a 3 60 b 4 120 c 2 100 d 90 e Plot a Gantt chart from the information above and calculate the BCWS for every day of the project.

6 Exercise 2 The project manager receives a progress report of the first 5 days, with the following information: Activity ‘a’ is completed in 3 days, it costed 75 25% of activity ‘b’ is completed during 2 days, 30 was paid Half of activity ‘c’ is ready (time spent was 2 days), costs were 60 Activity ‘d’ and ‘ e’ are not started Calculate BCWP and ACWP for the first 5 days Calculate CPI, SPI, BCC, ECC, FCC, the estimated overspending, PTC, ETC, ETPT and the estimated slip. Calculate the Earned Value for the first 5 days. Plot the S curves of actual, planned and earned values for the project.

7 Drawing project networks (basics)

8 Exercise 3 Plot the AoA diagram for
Identify the burst and marge nodes and/or activities on both the AoN and AoA diagrams Assemble the table form of the PNTs for both exercises

9 Exercise 4 Plot the AoA and AoN diagrams, and the Gantt chart
Activity Duration Predecessor activity a 3 - b 2 c 7 d 4 e c, d f Plot the AoA and AoN diagrams, and the Gantt chart Identify all the paths, the critical path(s) and the TPT Identify the floats (if there is any)

10 Exercise 5 Plot the AoA and AoN diagrams, and the Gantt chart
Activity Duration Predecessor activity a 1 - b 2 c d e 3 c, d f 4 g h i h, f, g Plot the AoA and AoN diagrams, and the Gantt chart Identify all the paths, the critical path(s) and the TPT Identify the floats (if there is any)
