1. Nearly 400 astronomy teachers and NASA education and public outreach leads gathered at the University of Colorado for the annual meeting of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. Founded in 1889, the ASP is uniquely brings together professional astronomers, amateur astronomers, K-12 teachers, and Education and Public Outreach leaders. Around 250,000 college students take an astronomy class each year to fulfill their science requirement, making astronomy one of the most popular sciences.

Around 75 K-12 teachers attended a two day “Galileo Teacher Training Workshop” co-sponsored by the ASP, CU’s Fiske Planetarium, and NASA’s Lunar Science Institute. All received inexpensive telescopes and practiced observing the moon.
