Regulation of gating in ion channels
Regulation of gating in ion channels. Several types of gating are shown for ion channels. A. Mechanical stretch of the membrane results in channel opening. B. Ligand-gated channels open in response to ligand binding. C. Protein phosphorylation or dephosphorylation (often through a second messenger) regulate opening and closing of some ion channels. D.
