Reading Project: A Lapbook

What’s a lapbook? A lap book generally consists of a paperboard folder such as a file folder with small pieces of folded paper glued inside. These folded papers may contain facts, diagrams, illustrations, etc. related to a subject. Lapbooks can be adapted for any subject and grade level. Some examples in the next slide…

Instructions to make your lapbook
Let’s watch some videos that can help you to understand the way you can work on a lapbook. You have to be creative so that you use different ways to present the information about the story you are reading in class.

Pair Work Let’s start working…
Activity 1: Go to page 68, read the information about the author of the book and make a summary: you must include when and where she was born, when she began writing, what kind of stories she wrote (mention at least three other stories) Example:

Activity 2: Write the list of characters in the story and give at least one characteristic of each of them. You might use the book pictures to show them. Example:

October 5 Activity 3: Choose 12 important facts from chapters 1 and 2 and create a crossword puzzle. Example:

October 18 Activity 4: To represent chapters 3 and 4, stick a picture of the Secret Garden and mention, at least, 6 important facts about it. Example:

Activity 5: Write 6 important quotes representing the moment when Mary and Colin first met and also when they talked about Dickon. (Chapters 5 and 6) Use creative ways to present them. Examples:

October 19 Activity 6: Create a Wordsquare with twenty meaningful words from chapters 5 and 6 Example:

October 26 Activity 7: Make a summary of chapter 7. Example:

Activity 8: Read Chapter 8 and make a comic representing it. You have to draw at least 5 pictures. Remember to add short dialogues or sentences that explain what happens. Example:
