2 Calculate the Y axis scale Calculate the Y axis scale
Highest number ________ Minus Lowest number ________ = the “Range” ________ Divided the “Range” by 50 = ________ Rounded this number UP! To “nice number” _______ Y axis Scale Highest number ________ Minus Lowest number ________ = the “Range” ________ Divided the “Range” by 50 = ________ Rounded this number UP! To “nice number” _______ Look at your data table these numbers Look at your data table these numbers This is how many lines there are on the ‘Y’ axis This is how many lines there are on the ‘Y’ axis A “Nice Number” is one that is good to skip count by A “Nice Number” is one that is good to skip count by ****NICE NUMBERS***** These numbers are what your round to Use them to number your Y axis scale with: Under 1.0 and above —2.0—5.0—10.0—20.0—25.0—50.0 etc… ****NICE NUMBERS***** These numbers are what your round to Use them to number your Y axis scale with: Under 1.0 and above —2.0—5.0—10.0—20.0—25.0—50.0 etc… The X axis The X axis Space the bars out EVENLY across the X axis. Space the bars out EVENLY across the X axis. The Bars The Bars Draw with a RULER, shade them in, put the value at top Draw with a RULER, shade them in, put the value at top

3 Steps to Completing a Bar Graph: Steps to Completing a Bar Graph:
****REMBER NEATNESS COUNTS*********** The Set-up Re-draw the “X” and “y” axis lines. Title your graph Full name and class period Find and label the IV and DV Label the IV= what is being “purposely changed” and is graphed in the “x” axis. Label the DV= what is being “measured” and is graphed on the “y” axis. Lay-out the “x” axis Space out the number of bars evenly across the “x” axis. Place bars in ascending order (lowest to highest). Below each bar place a label. Calculating the “y” axis SCALE: Find the highest number in your data set. Divide that number by the number of lines on the “y” axis =50 (if your paper is oriented “portrait”) Take the quotient and ROUND-UP to the NEXT highest “NICE NUMBER TO COUNT BY”. Use this number to count the “y” axis scale all the way to the top of the graph. Draw the Bars USE A RULER to draw the bars. Make sure the top of the bar is exactly where it belongs and it is FLAT. Label each bar at the top with it’s value. NEATLY shade in the bars as time allows.
