1 How do organ systems work together to help you survive?
The Human Body How do organ systems work together to help you survive?

2 Human Body 2.0 Human Body #8: Project Agenda Do Now
Step 1: Need to Knows Step 2: Review Step 3: Design Step 4: Write Step 4: Prepare Step 5: Present Do Now This project will allow you to apply your knowledge of cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and the human body as a whole. Let’s review. Describe the relationship between cells and tissues. Describe the relationship between tissues and organs. Describe the relationship between organs and organ systems. Choose one organ system to provide examples. Choose two organ systems. Describe how they interact to help you live.

3 Step 1: Need to Knows Human Body 2.0 Human Body #8:
Introduction to task Have you seen an athlete fall to the ground with a dislocated knee? Do you know someone who has diabetes? Wouldn’t you rather never throw up again? The human body is one of the best machines in the world, but it sure has some flaws. If you were in CHARGE OF EVERYTHING, how would you make a better human body… a Human Body 2.0? Your task: In a small group, you will research problems that can occur in body systems identify three organs or body systems that you’d like to improve think scientifically about how to best make those improvements create a visual presentation & a writeup to communicate your design How would you redesign the human body in order to make it more efficient, stronger, and longer-lasting? Driving Question: Objective: Scientists will be able to develop a “need to know” for a project

4 Step 2: Review Human Body 2.0 Human Body #8: Review Chart
Create a review chart about each organ system Problems List diseases, disorders, or malfunctions of each organ Objective: Scientists will be able to describe the form and function of all body systems

5 Step 3: Design Human Body 2.0 Human Body #8:
Select 3 organs or body systems and propose redesigns. Example of brainstormed Human Body 2.0 redesign: Teacher Grade for 3 Redesign Charts: __ 4 (Advanced): Your scientific thinking is completely correct. __ 3 (Proficient): Your scientific thinking is mostly correct. __ 2 (Developing): Your scientific thinking is partly correct. __ 1 (Beginning): Your scientific thinking is incorrect. Objective: Scientists will be able to analyze problems in the human body and propose improvements

6 Step 3: Design Human Body 2.0 Human Body #8: Cause and Effect Charts
Choose your best three redesigns out of all 3 charts. For each one, describe 3 effects on the rest of the body. Will other organs have to move? Will other systems find it harder or easier to function? Will some body parts or organs not be necessary anymore? Teacher Grade for 3 Cause and Effect Charts: __ 4 (Advanced): Your scientific thinking is completely correct.

7 Step 4: Write Human Body 2.0 Human Body #8: Written Analysis:
For each Body System Redesign, write at least 6 sentences (1-2 paragraphs) and answer the prompts fully. Then check spelling and capitalization! Describe the current structure and function of the organ system or body part. Describe your solution to improve the organ system. Defend why you want to make this redesign. Explain the impact on other body systems or organs (one to three). Persuade that your redesign improves the human body and the future of society. Who will be responsible for writing up answers to the prompts? Objective: Scientists will be able to defend their solutions in a written analysis

8 Step 4: Write Human Body 2.0 Human Body #8: C...Capitalization
First word in all sentences Proper nouns O…Organization No run-on sentences or sentence fragments Combine simple sentences into longer ones A variety of sentence structures (not all starting with the same word) Powerful verbs, specific nouns, colorful adjectives Title/heading Author P…Punctuation  Periods, question marks, or exclamation points at the end of sentences Commas for pauses or lists Quotation marks S…Spelling Spell check on the computer Correct use to two/to/too Correct use of your/you’re Correct use of there/their/they’re Peer Editing Teacher Editing _____________________ read my work. I then revised these things: I met with a teacher for a final conference. Teacher initials: Objective: Scientists will be able to defend their solutions in a written analysis

9 Step 5: Prepare Human Body 2.0 Human Body #8: Format of Presentation?
Decide with your group how you will present your thinking. Format of Presentation? Giant mind map with key concepts and visuals Trifold board with labeled sections Life-size tracing of a body with organs labeled Prezi (no PowerPoints for this project!) Video (GoAnimate, TV talk show, interviews with Humans 2.0 detailing how their lives are better…) Build or adapt a 3D model Fiction (a day in the life of this new human; a world in which everybody is 2.0-improved) Objective: Scientists will be able to determine best format for organizing information

10 Step 5: Present Human Body 2.0 Human Body #8:
Practice: Who is presenting each part, or are you all speaking together? Practice at least 5 times all together so that you are very confident and can answer questions. Present: Classroom Exhibition 3 rounds of science-fair style: Use the rubric to assess other projects. Which one will you vote for the best Human Body 2.0 redesign in this class? Objective: Scientists will be able to present information clearly and accurately

11 Our Written Analysis is…
Human Body #8: Step 5: Present Human Body 2.0 Our Written Analysis is… Accurate All of our content knowledge is correct and detailed. Creative Our ideas are original and innovative. Effective Our redesigns have significant impact on the body and the world. Clear The writing is organized clearly and errors do not confuse the reader. Our Presentation is… Organized Our information is well-organized and easy to follow, with headings, labels, and clear sections. Visual Our graphics clearly support our written analysis. Creative We have developed a style, layout, or approach to presenting that is interesting. Engaging We present in a natural way, demonstrating enthusiasm and confidence. Objective: Scientists will be able to present information clearly and accurately
